In English
The ancient Greeks tried to explain all natural phenomenon
with myths. The following is their explanation
for the creation of the world.
In the beginning there was chaos (χάος), an empty space.
From chaos were born the Earth (γαία-γη), Night (νύχτα) and Day
From the Earth were born the
mountains, the sea, and the sky-Uranus (Ουρανός), the first god.
From Uranus and Earth 13 children were born the titans (τιτάνες).
Uranus was afraid that one day, one of his children will take the throne from him.
Every one of the children, when he or she was born, Uranus would
throw them in a deep cave. One of his children Kronos (Κρόνος=Saturn), the
youngest one, was very smart and decisive. He escaped and with the help
of his mother took the throne from Uranus. After he freed his brothers and
sisters, with their help, he became the Ruler of the world.
(night) και η μέρα (day).
