Zeus, the powerful god, the king of gods and humans.
He was the sixth child of Kronos and Rhea. He managed to dethrone his father and
become the ruler of the world. His symbol and his weapon was the thunderbolt.
Hephaestus was making them for him. He sat on a golden throne
in the god's palace, on mount Olympus.
From there, he was ruling the world. He was fair but tough.
Albeit to the human or god, that went against his will. The king of gods
would throw the thunderbolts without mercy.
His face had an unusual beauty. Every one of the gods respected Zeus. Next to him was the throne of his wife
Hera. Zeus loved and respected his wife but was also famous for his affairs with other
women.
Zeus had many battles when he was trying to take Kronos' throne.
He fought his father and the titans. He also fought with Typhoeus (Τυφωνέας) a monster,
son of earth, that had 100 dragon heads. But who could go against Zeus' power and
his thunderbolts?
The ancient Greeks adored him.
They believed in his fairness. Many temples and statues were built for him.
One of the most renown was the statue of Olympian Zeus in ancient Olympia (Ολυμπία).

Ο Δίας, ο παντοδύναμος θεός, ο
βασιλιάς των ανθρώπων και των θεών. Ήταν
το έκτο παιδί του Κρόνου και της Ρέας. Κατάφερε να εκθρονίσει τον πατέρα του και
έγινε ο κυρίαρχος του κόσμου. Το σύμβολο και το όπλο του ήταν ο κεραυνός. Ο Ήφαιστος
τους έφτιαχνε γι' αυτόν. Καθόταν σε ένα χρυσό θρόνο στο παλάτι των θεών, πάνω στο
βουνό Όλυμπο. Από κει, διοικούσε τον κόσμο. Αλίμονο στον άνθρωπο ή στον θεό που
θα πήγαινε ενάντια στη θέλησή του. Ο βασιλιάς των θεών θα έριχνε τους κεραυνούς του
χωρίς οίκτο.
Το πρόσωπό του είχε μια ασυνήθιστη ομορφιά. Κάθε ένας από τους θεούς
σεβόταν τον Δία. Δίπλα του ήταν ο θρόνος της γυναίκας του της Ήρας. Ο Δίας
αγαπούσε και σεβόταν την γυναίκα του αλλά ήταν επίσης διάσημος για τις υποθέσεις του
με άλλες γυναίκες.
Ο Δίας είχε πολλές μάχες όταν προσπαθούσε να πάρει τον θρόνο του Κρόνου.
Πολέμησε τον πατέρα του με τους τιτάνες. Επίσης
πάλεψε με τον Τυφωνέα, ένα τέρας, γιο της Γης,
που είχε 100 κεφάλια δράκοντα. Αλλά ποιος μπορούσε να πάει ενάντια στη δύναμη του Δία και
τους κεραυνούς του;
Οι αρχαίοι Έλληνες τον λάτρευαν. Πίστευαν στην δικαιοσύνη του. Πολλοί
ναοί και αγάλματα χτίστηκαν προς τιμή του. Ένα απ' τα πιο γνωστά ήταν το άγαλμα του Ολυμπίου Διός
στην αρχαία Ολυμπία.
