Apollo was the son of Zeus and Leto (Λητώ). He was born on the island
of Delos (Δήλος). He was the god of light, protector of the arts, music and poetry. He was also the
god of divination. Everybody knows the famous oracle of Delphi (μαντείο των Δελφών)
that was built in his honor.
When his mother was pregnant goddess Hera got very jealous. She made
the dragon Python (Πύθωνα) chase her all around the world. In the end though,
Leto gave birth to the young god.
Apollo grew up and he wanted to take revenge for his mother's suffering.
He was always carrying his lyre and his silver bow with golden arrows.
After searching a lot, he found Python. He killed him and buried him at Delphi.
On top of his grave he built the
foundation for the Temple of Delphi (the oracle).
Apollo is accompanied by the nine Muses.
They are the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosine (Μνημοσύνη), the goddess of memory.
He plays his lyre and together with him, the Muses sing. Everybody in Olympus loves
Apollo's lyre and singing. But the god is not always so calm. If somebody
does something bad it is sure that he'll be punished or die from Apollo's golden arrows.
In ancient Greece Apollo was one of the favorite gods. The Greeks honored him by building
many temples for him. He was as much adored as his father Zeus.

Ήταν ο θεός του φωτός, και προστάτης των τεχνών, της μουσικής και της ποίησης. Ήταν
επίσης ο θεός της μαντικής. Όλοι ξέρουν το περίφημο μαντείο των Δελφών,
που χτίστηκε προς τιμή του.
Όταν η μητέρα του ήταν έγγυος, η θεά Ήρα την ζήλευε πολύ.

Πύθωνα να την κυνηγήσει σε όλο τον κόσμο. Στο τέλος όμως, η Λητώ γέννησε τον
νεαρό θεό.
Ο Απόλλωνας μεγάλωσε και ήθελε να πάρει εκδίκηση για όσα υπέφερε η μητέρα του.
Πάντα κουβαλούσε μαζί του την λύρα του και το ασημένιο του τόξο με τα χρυσά βέλη.
Αφού έψαξε πολύ, βρήκε τον Πύθωνα. Τον σκότωσε και τον έθαψε στους Δελφούς. Πάνω από τον
τάφο του έχτισε τα θεμέλια για τον ναό των Δελφών (το μαντείο).
Ο Απόλλωνας συνοδεύεται από τις εννιά Μούσες. Είναι οι κόρες του Δία και
της Μνημοσύνης, της θεάς της μνήμης. Παίζει την λύρα του και μαζί μ' αυτόν, οι Μούσες τραγουδούν.
Όλοι στον Όλυμπο αγαπούν την λύρα και το τραγούδι του Απόλλωνα. Αλλά ο θεός, δεν
είναι πάντα τόσο ήρεμος. Αν κάποιος κάνει κάτι άσχημο είναι σίγουρο πως θα τιμωρηθεί
ή θα πεθάνει από τα βέλη του Απόλλωνα
Στην αρχαία Ελλάδα ο Απόλλωνας ήταν ένας από τους αγαπητούς θεούς. Οι Έλληνες τον
τίμησαν, χτίζοντας πολλούς ναούς. Ήταν τόσο
λατρεμένος όσο και ο πατέρας του ο Δίας.
