The Victory of the Trojans

   We said previously that Zeus promised goddess Thetis, to give victory to the Trojans until the Greeks begged her son to help them.

   In the morning Zeus called all the gods to speak to them. He said that he prohibits anyone of the gods and goddesses to help the Trojans or the Greeks. He would punish them if they would not obey his orders. He then went down to Troy.

   In the meantime, the war had started again. The Trojans started to hit the Greeks with no mercy. The Greek soldiers were falling from the Trojans' swords one after the other. Hera, seeing from Olympus that the Greeks were loosing, asked Poseidon to go down and help them. But Poseidon denied her request.

   The battle continued and the Trojans were winning with the help of Zeus. Hector killed many Greek heroes. Goddess Hera who felt sorry for the Greeks, asked goddess Athena to go with her to help them. Athena agreed. As they were coming down from Olympus, Zeus saw them, and sent goddess Iris to tell them to stay where they were, or they will get punished by the powerful god. They were scared and stayed at Olympus watching their favorite army losing the battle.

   As the night fell, the bloody battle stopped. Hector kept the Trojans out in the battle field. He was hoping that the next day he would be able to chase the Greeks from Trojan ground...

   Είπαμε προηγουμένως πως ο Δίας υποσχέθηκε στη θεά Θέτιδα, να δώσει τη νίκη στους Τρώες μέχρι που οι Έλληνες να παρακαλέσουν το γιο της να τους βοηθήσει.

   Το πρωί ο Δίας κάλεσε όλους τους θεούς να τους μιλήσει. Είπε ότι απαγορεύει σε όλους τους θεούς και τις θεές να βοηθήσουν τους Τρώες ή τους Έλληνες. Θα τους τιμωρούσε άν δεν υπάκουαν τις διαταγές του. Μετά πήγε κάτω στην Τροία.

   Εν τω μεταξύ, ο πόλεμος είχε αρχίσει ξανά. Οι Τρώες άρχισαν να χτυπούν τους Έλληνες χωρίς οίκτο. Οι Έλληνες στρατιώτες έπεφταν από τα σπαθιά των Τρώων, ο ένας μετά τον άλλο. Η Ήρα, βλέποντας από τον Όλυμπο ότι οι Έλληνες έχαναν, ζήτησε από τον Ποσειδώνα να πάει και να τους βοηθήσει. Αλλά ο Ποσειδώνας αρνήθηκε το αίτημά της.

   Η μάχη συνεχίστηκε και οι Τρώες νικούσαν με την βοήθεια του Δία. Ο Έκτορας σκότωσε πολλούς Έλληνες ήρωες. Η θεά Ήρα που λυπόταν για τους Έλληνες, ζήτησε από την θεά Αθηνά να πάει μαζί της να τους βοηθήσουν. Η Αθηνά συμφώνησε. Όπως έρχονταν κάτω από τον Όλυμπο, ο Δίας τις είδε, και έστειλε την θεά Ίριδα να τους πει να μείνουν εκεί που είναι, ή θα τιμωρηθούν από τον παντοδύναμο θεό. Φοβήθηκαν και έμειναν στον Όλυμπο παρακολουθώντας τον αγαπημένο τους στρατό να χάνει την μάχη.

   Όταν έπεσε η νύχτα, η αιματερή μάχη σταμάτησε. Ο Έκτορας κράτησε τους Τρώες έξω στο πεδίο της μάχης. Έλπιζε πως την επόμενη μέρα θα ήταν ικανός να κυνηγήσει τους Έλληνες από το Τρωικό έδαφος...
