The Erymanthian Boar - Ο Ερυμάνθιος Κάπρος

As we said before, Eurestheas was afraid that Hercules would take his throne. That's why each time Hercules returned from a task, Eurestheus tried to send him to a more dangerous one, hoping that he might get killed.

   He ordered him to bring back alive the Erymanthian Boar. This boar lived in the mountain Erymanthos in Arcadia. It was a big animal, wild with big pointed tusks and was causing problems in the area.
   For months Hercules was trying to find the right opportunity to catch the boar alive. Finally he chased the boar into a narrow gorge.
   Running to escape from Hercules, it fell from a small cliff. Fortunately, because of the thick vegetation the boar was alive but unconscious. Hercules tied the animal and took it back to the king.

   Όπως είπαμε πριν, ο Ευρυσθέας φοβόταν πως ο Ηρακλής θα του έπαιρνε τον θρόνο. Γι' αυτό κάθε φορά που ο Ηρακλής επέστρεφε από έναν άθλο, ο Ευρυσθέας προσπαθούσε να τον στείλει σε έναν πιο επικίνδυνο, ελπίζοντας πως μπορεί να σκοτωθεί.

   Τον διέταξε να του φέρει πίσω ζωντανό τον Ερυμάνθιο Κάπρο. Αυτό το αγριογούρουνο ζούσε στο βουνό Ερύμανθος στην Αρκαδία. Ήταν μεγάλο ζώο, άγριο με μεγάλους μυτερούς χαυλιόδοντες και προξενούσε προβλήματα στην περιοχή.
   Μήνες ο Ηρακλής προσπαθούσε να βρει την κατάλληλη ευκαιρία, να πιάσει τον κάπρο ζωντανό. Τελικά κυνήγησε το αγριογούρουνο σε ένα στενό λαγκάδι.
   Τρέχοντας να δραπετεύση από τον Ηρακλή, έπεσε από ένα μικρό γκρεμό. Ευτυχώς, εξαιτίας της πυκνής βλάστησης ο κάπρος ήταν ζωντανός αλλά αναίσθητος. Ο Ηρακλής έδεσε το ζώο και το πήγε στο βασιλιά.
