In EnglishOn his way back to Seriphos, after he killed Medusa, Perseus arrived at Atlas' (Άτλας, Άτλαντας) land. Atlas was a giant, son of the titan Iapetos (Ιαπετός) and Prometheus' (Προμηθέας) brother. In this land there were thousands of flocks of sheeps and cows, the earth was green and there were thousands of trees. The place was known as the garden of Hesperides. In this garden there was an apple tree whose leaves and apples were golden. There was a prophecy that said that one day one of Zeus' sons would steal the apples. That's why Atlas had built a wall around the garden where this tree was. Perseus stopped there and asked Atlas if he would let him sleep for the night because he was tired. He explained to him that he was Zeus' son and that he had killed Medusa. Atlas became upset. He called Perseus a liar and he told him to get out of his land. He was getting ready to chase our hero away. Perseus realized that he can not fight with the giant. Angry that Atlas denied him and called him a liar, he pulled Medusa's head out of his pouch. The giant became a stone. He became the rocks of mount Atlas that the ancient Greeks believed holds the sky and the stars... In GreekΌταν γυρνούσε στη Σέριφο, αφού σκότωσε την Μέδουσα, ο Περσέας έφτασε στην χώρα του Άτλα. Ο Άτλας ήταν γίγαντας, γιος του τιτάνα Ιαπετού και αδελφός του Προμηθέα. Σε αυτή την χώρα υπήρχαν χιλιάδες κοπάδια από πρόβατα και γελάδια, η γη ήταν καταπράσινη και υπήρχαν χιλιάδες δέντρα. Το μέρος αυτό ήταν γνωστό με το όνομα ο κήπος των Εσπερίδων. Σε αυτό το κήπο υπήρχε μια μηλιά που τα φύλλα της και τα μήλα ήταν χρυσά. Υπήρχε μια προφητεία που έλεγε πως μια μέρα ένας γιος του Δία θα έκλεβε τα μήλα. Γι' αυτό ο Άτλας είχε χτίσει ένα τοίχο γύρω από τον κήπο όπου βρισκόταν αυτό το δέντρο. Ο Περσέας σταμάτησε εκεί και ρώτησε τον Άτλα αν θα τον άφηνε να κοιμηθεί αυτή τη νύχτα γιατί ήταν κουρασμένος. Του εξήγησε πως ήταν γιος του Δία και πως είχε σκοτώσει την Μέδουσα. Ο Άτλας θύμωσε. Είπε τον Περσέα ψεύτη και του είπε να φύγει από τον τόπο του. Ετοιμαζόταν να κυνηγήσει το ήρωά μας. Ο Περσέας κατάλαβε πως δεν μπορεί να χτυπηθεί με τον γίγαντα. Θυμωμένος που ο Άτλας τον αρνήθηκε και τον φώναξε ψεύτη, τράβηξε το κεφάλι της Μέδουσας από το σακούλι. Ο γίγαντας έγινε πέτρα. Έγινε οι βράχοι του βουνού Άτλας που οι αρχαίοι Έλληνες πίστευαν πως κρατάει τον ουρανό και τα αστέρια... Words you Need to Learn(+) Show or Hide the "Key"
